The engagement session is the perfect time for the photographer and the couple to get to know each other. In the first meeting we discuss ideas and look at portfolios. Now is the time we have to make the magic happen in-camera. I find that this relaxed session gives people time to get to know the process of photography, without the pressure of a wedding day. They relax and feel less intimidated and then the smiles are more genuine and bodies are not so tense.

Heather-Leigh and Thomas decided to have their shoot at the Walter Sisulu Botanical gardens in Roodepoort. I have never been there myself, and was very excited about what was available. There is a stunning waterfall and due to good rains the last few months was in full force. The garden is immaculate and we explored the greenery while clicking away. Soon they worked like pros and we had fun. Heather-Leigh has the most beautiful hair and striking green eyes, I cannot wait to see her in her wedding finery!

F Wilson Fashion in Bride’s Diary

When F Wilson Fashion decided to advertise in Bride’s Diary 2011 edition, they asked me to do the photography and artwork. We have been working together for a year now, and I had a good understanding of their unique style and design. We decided that the ad should reflect their fantasy style. One of their brides was kind enough to come in and pose in her dress, a week before her wedding. The dress was made of an oyster coloured silk and embellished with Chantilly lace they purchased in Venice. I fell in love with the dress the moment I saw it, and was very pleased with the results. The second dress was their design for the 2010 Bridal Africa designer competition. The huge detachable skirt covered a little party number. The blonde model, Bianca, is a favourite of Frits and Johan, and she is so much fun to work with. Thank you to Mia for the make-up and Brigitte for the hair. The first spread is the one used in the magazine. Bride’s Diary 2011 edition is on sale now at all fine bookstores and newsagents.

2011 Expo4Brides

This year’s Expo was well attended with lits of eager brides looking for the best ideas and vendors. I had my usual bright yellow corporate colours to decorate my stand. I shared a space with F Wilson Fashion design and had a few images of their dresses on display. The photosession was done last year for and advertisement for Bride’s Diary magazine. The beautiful model, Bianca, also showcased their designer choice dress on the runway. I took some shots behind the scenes and on the runway as well.

Tracey & Ryan – Cathedral Peak Hotel

The drive down to the Drakensberg was a great start to a destination wedding at the Cathedral Peak Hotel. The scenery is spectacular. Tracey and Ryan decided that a weekend away would be the perfect way to celebrate their wedding. The weather held up well, with no dreaded rain storms. The view and nature was a fantastic backdrop to the event.
